The calculator uses typical mid-range duty and VAT rates published by each country's customs authority, plus realistic freight estimates for the US East Coast → your port route. Inputs flow through this formula:
Duty = CIF × (category-specific duty %)
VAT = (CIF + Duty) × (country VAT %)
Total = CIF + Duty + VAT + Clearance fee
Real shipments may include freight surcharges, currency conversion costs, port handling fees, or higher duties for specific HS codes. The calculator is a ballpark — your customs broker's declaration is the source of truth on the actual numbers. Get an exact quote via WhatsApp for the real freight cost on your specific load.
FAQ
- How accurate are these freight estimates?
- Single-pallet freight is the most volatile cost — it depends on weight, dimensions, fuel surcharges, and current carrier capacity. Full-container freight is much more predictable. Our quotes via WhatsApp are based on current rates with named carriers.
- Why are some duty rates so high?
- Clothing and apparel face the highest import duties almost everywhere — typically 25-45% — because most countries protect domestic textile industries. Electronics, by contrast, are often duty-free or low-duty under WTO ITA agreements.
- Does this include freight forwarder fees?
- The clearance fee estimate covers a typical customs broker / agent fee in your country. It does not include your US freight forwarder's consolidation fee or storage fees if your pallet sits before consolidation.
